Box Lacrosse:

  • Traditionally a Canadian game, the professional lacrosse team, The Arizona Sting plays Box at Jobing.com Arena, Glendale AZ
  • Played 6 on 6 inside a hockey rink in late summer, early fall. The rink area is called the box, in contrast to the unenclosed playing area of field lacrosse
  • Inter-league play, equal participation, 9 or more teams, approx. 120 – 150 players
  • Season: October 1, 2007 to November 16, 2007, 7 games and tournament

Thunderbird-Paseo Park, Glendale, AZ
Field Lacrosse 
 

  • Native American origins dating to 1630, modern game traced to the Mohawk tribe in 1869. Over 2,000 Arizona youth lacrosse players competed in organized games in 2006
  • Played 10 on 10 within a lined lacrosse field, similar in dimensions to a football or soccer field

Instructional


  • Emphasis on instruction, development, and the fundamentals of team play. Preparation for competitive lacrosse and enjoyment of a new sport
  • Inter-league play, equal participation, 6 or more teams, approx. 150 players
  • Season: October  thru November  2008, 7 games, tournament and skills competition
  • Location: Thunderbird Paseo Park, 59th Ave & Thunderbird, Glendale AZ

Competitive – US Lacrosse

Glendale Vipers
 

  • Challenge top teams across AZ, run similar to HS programs, preparation for college
  • Travel play, 40 maximum players per team
  • Season: AYLL schedule TBD, 12 minimum games, January through April 2008, May playoffs
  • JHS / JV / Varsity Divisions
  • Location: Thunderbird Paseo Park, 59th Ave & Thunderbird, Glendale AZ ( ½ of all games will be home) & travel locations Anthem, Goodyear, Phoenix and Scottsdale
